I was playing in /editor, and noticed that if you are working on a ship not in map view, and you use Ctrl+C on a thruster, you can paste that thruster without regard to needing 85 open space tiles behind. See my post here:
https://old.reddit.com/r/factorio/comme ... _thruster/
Even in /editor, you cannot place thrusters like this in map view, or using pipette and place/force place/super force place. You will always get a ghost or the placement will wipe 85 tiles behind the new position of the thruster. Similarly, you cannot use deconstruction planner or Ctrl+C on tiles to make a hole in a platform, even in /editor.
What I would expect: given that it's prevented in every other way, I'd expect this would be prevented here too. Editor is the sandbox to test achievable builds within the game and this is obviously well outside of that.
[2.0.34] Thrusters placement rules can be broken in editor
Re: [2.0.34] Thrusters placement rules can be broken in editor
Yes, you can do impossible things in the Editor. another one is to place Reinforced Concrete tiles down in place of the Space Platform Foundation, for a smoother look. This is “caught” by the sanity checker when you attempt to Blueprint the Thruster (you get Tile Placement Consistency error), so it is not generally useful.

Right, it's not very useful. Unlike putting disallowed objects on a platform, it's perfectly reasonable that you might be working on a ship design for hours in editor and not realize you were placing invalid thrusters. You might have a stacked thruster design, and because you happen to be using copy/paste not in map mode, your thruster stacks are 72 tiles apart. Your hours of work are gone when you go to build the blueprint in your main save.eugenekay wrote: Mon Feb 17, 2025 4:49 am Yes, you can do impossible things in the Editor. another one is to place Reinforced Concrete tiles down in place of the Space Platform Foundation, for a smoother look. Building thrusters like this is prevented in every other possible way, and it should also be prevented this way, for exactly this reason.
Re: [2.0.34] Thrusters placement rules can be broken in editor
This is not a big as the editor is allowed to ignore tile conditions explicitly in the editor settings. If you don’t want that, un-check that setting.
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.
