Guys I really enjoy factorio but I can’t beat the game yet. Normally I decided to buy Space age dlc after finished the vanilla game. But right now I’m little bit confused. As I understand space age starts after finished the vanilla, that means I can buy before I finish the game. What do you think

Re: DLC!!
It might depend on how far in vanilla you are. For example if you're at the stage of researching and/or making a rocket silo, the technology is a lot cheaper in space age. If you're still beginning Factorio though, space age might be a little overwhelming. It's a great expansion though, so if you think you can do it, go for it!
Re: DLC!!
Space Age isn't just taking place "after you finished the game", it's woven within the game and extends it starting mid to late game. A few late game tech known from vanilla is instead being unlocked on some planet with Space Age, for example.
If you create a new map with Space Age active, you experience that enhanced game. You start it similar to the vanilla game, but after some progress you see you have the option to explore space. You don't have to, you can if you like.
If you create a new map with just the vanilla game, the game is as it was for the past years. If you later buy Space Age and continue your map with this included, the map is converted to the Space Age tech system and you lose access to some tech that's unlocked on a planet with Space Age until you research it again after visiting the required planet. But you are also able to include the better tech from the planets to enhance your base.
Space Age is an extension of all parts of the game. Not just the endgame. It's broader in scope. It has more challenges and can be considered slightly harder than vanilla. For me, the vanilla game had no difficulty at all. It was all just building, unlocking, building more, etc. If you are used to keep things organized and plan ahead, you will probably feel the same. But Space Age has some challenges where you definitely need to think more about it. It has more and real puzzles.
Keep in mind you can always adjust the map settings when creating a new map. For example, if you're unable to fight enemies and get overrun, turn down the enemy settings or just disable them. I did that with my first maps. It's not that enemies were difficult - they were just disrupting and interfering, and that was not fun for me.

Re: DLC!!
I think that most people will enjoy the Space Age DLC a lot more if they play the vanilla game through at least a few times. You will understand much more about the DLC if you have a good understanding of the base game. As somebody said, going straight to Space Age could be difficult for a lot of new players.Arupu wrote: Tue Jan 21, 2025 8:14 pm Guys I really enjoy factorio but I can’t beat the game yet. Re: DLC!!
To be honest there is only one think I don’t understand about the vanilla game “Liquid systems oil and fuel”. But I already used to base game.

Re: DLC!!
I was about to write about oil processing but cut that, since I don't wanted to bloat my big post even more. But oil processing is actually the only non trivial puzzle in the vanilla game you need to think about. The challenge is that you get 3 different fluids from Advanced Oil Processing, and the ratio of these fluids isn't the same as you consume these fluids, so the refinery eventually clogs. You have to add a second process to get rid of the byproducts, or better to convert the byproducts you don't need to other products you do need. The solution to that is light and heavy oil cracking, and to perfect it you could use a little bit of circuit logic.Arupu wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 9:50 am To be honest there is only one think I don’t understand about the vanilla game “Liquid systems oil and fuel”.
Each planet in Space Age has a challenge of this kind on its own. It's not a linear process any more from raw resources to refined resources to machines to end products. Instead, it's a production circle. Processing raw resources results in byproducts, which are partly required to create raw resources again to fully automate the circle and partly to be thrown away. That's also a new mechanic: getting rid of byproducts. You have to master these challenges to progress beyond that planet.
Additionally, it's a challenge that once you travelled to a planet, you're not able to immediately return back to your base on Nauvis, the home planet, in case some issue comes up such as biters overrunning your base or some item shortage. So it's required you secure and automate your factory enough before you go travelling.
