Curious about Discrepancy between Entity Update listed time and total time visible under Entities total in the F5 Screen

First wanted to say I'm loving Space Age, this is the hardest a video game has grabbed me in quite some time and I decided to make it my goal to get 1M SPM.

That being said, I've been looking in to debugging UPS slowdowns I'm having, and in trying to investigate it, I've noticed that the time listed under "Entity update" in the Entity section, and the time listed in "Entities total" doesn't seem to line up.



Does anyone know why the difference? Is my assumption about the relationship between these two numbers wrong? Is some entity showing in one but not the other?

After playing around trying to lower my UPS, I have managed to get other timings to decrease (turns out using a lot of legendary artillery is great at clearing biters, which are a huge UPS drain).

However, despite this the number discrepancy seems to have increased?



Note: that the screenshot above is a bit of an outlier. Usually the range is closer to about 3.0, which is still an increase from the about 2.0 that it was in the previous screenshot.

My best guess as to what is happening is that there is some hidden metric not reported.

I believe this metric is related in some way to space platforms, as I have more of those doing the shattered planet science run now than I did during my previous screenshot, but I'm not certain about that.

Entity update is the duration of that part of the main loop, Entities total is the sum of the listed entities I assume.
