Game should show me total amount of items (e.g. Belts)

Post by Peter34 »

When I'm laying down Transporter Belts, the game shows only how many there are in the current stack, e.g. 23, 22, 21, 20, counting down as I lay them, and if the remaining stacks are in my Inventory, not in my Tool Belt, then I have no way of knowing how many I have, so I don't know what will happen when the counter goes below 1, if it'll reset back to 50, or if I find myself unable to lay more Transporter Belts.

That's an interface annoyance, at times a huge one, and the game really ought to display the total number of items of the type the player is currently placing. Perhaps the best way of displaying that is in paranthesis after the first figure, so that the countdown shows: 23 (173), 22 (172), 21 (171), and so forth.

That way I know how long I'll be able to stay in this pseudo-meditative belt-laying mental state, instead of having to worry about it.

Indeed, this bugs me sometime, too.
:)

There is for example this:
https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... +inventory

And I'm sure, there are a lot more posts, but they are difficult to find.
Cool suggestion: Eatable MOUSE-pointers.

Count all items in inventory when an item is in hand

As I've played Factorio, I've noticed that, while the item count for an item in hand shows the amount remaining in that specific stack, it will automatically get more items from the inventory when that stack empties. It would be nice if the game also showed a value in parentheses next to it that also count the other items of that type in the inventory. IE, if you have 5 basic transport belts in hand and 200 in the inventory, it would show 5(205). This would be nice, since you'd have a better idea of when you're about to run out of some item or other.

Yesssss +1000 on this one :) I was too lazy to post, but I would definitely love to see this behaviour in the game.
If I may add : when multiple stacks are present (in hotbar + in the backpack, consume first the stacks from backpack. ie : Always have a full stack in the hotbar when carrying more than one stack worth of an object.

@Koub: If you want to use inventory stacks first, then just take them first, cause this behavior is uncool, if you put the items in your inventory to bring it to another place.

I quickly modded it in, it's not pretty but it works.
Find it here.
