Is it possible to use rockets as glorified trains to deliver stuff from point A to point B within the same large base on the same planet in cases where other logistics methods are not practical (large distance, require a lot of different items delivered from all over the base to one spot, large throughput so it would eat all the bot capacity)?
My main concern is that the rocket silo is a requester chest and the cargo landing pad is a provider chest, so when a drop pod lands in the cargo landing pad, the bots might just take all that stuff and haul it across the entire base into the nearest rocket silo, which would be a very undesirable behaviour. Is there a way to avoid this?
Intraplanetary rocket logistics
Re: Intraplanetary rocket logistics
You could probably ship stuff through a space platform from several rocket silos to a landing pad. Better don't connect the source silo and the target landing pad through logistic network, if you want to avoid logistic bots to mess up with the route.
But you can only have a single landing pad on a planet, so at best that's going to be a star shaped delivery system.
Connecting a remote mining outpost to the main base with a rocket silo certainly sounds like a doable option! (but you'd need to replenish that rocket silo for rocket production, without shipping from space, so either local production or a train route..)

Re: Intraplanetary rocket logistics
Yes, this is possible albeit hilariously inefficient. I could see it almost make sense for moving Spoilable items a long distance.
To prevent Logistic bot loops, use separate (smaller) Logistic networks for your Rocket Silos (presumably in a distant Outpost) and the Landing Pad (your central base).

Re: Intraplanetary rocket logistics
Well, you can only have one cargo landing pad per surface, so I don't think that this would be possible. I agree that it's a pretty funny idea, though!
Re: Intraplanetary rocket logistics
This was for my science deliveries from all across my large base to the labs. I ended up deciding on a simpler solution - making dedicated science trains that can deliver different science types to a single train station, in contrast to my generic cargo trains, which require one good per station.
