Vulcanus: Kill the worms
Re: Vulcanus: Kill the worms
I just went with a very simplistic approach as you have infinite iron and copper:
Just made a simple blueprint of basic gun turrets with belts in between and some requester chests in the beginning to request Armour piercing bullets.
Just fill 1 chunk for small, 2 chunks (hit F5 to see the chunks) next to the territory border and with the blueprint and wait till all turrets have bullets.
Then just built a bit in the territory and it will charge at your turrets.
I basically took out all the small and medium worms this way.
The large ones need more heavy firepower, but just like you, I'm not there yet hahah

I was heading for "logisitc embargo" and science from another planet achievements in my first playthrough, went for Vulcanus as my first palnet. And what I can say that you can fight and kill the small worm in close combat just with your personal equipment. Advice is to have something the worm will be baited for, cause sometimes land can restrict your maneuvers.
Re: Vulcanus: Kill the worms
I used a grid of 15 x 12 turrets with red ammo. Lure the (small) worm in and replace losses. It's an easy early tactic until you get better weapons tech. Vulcanus is the land of infinite iron and copper after all.

Re: Vulcanus: Kill the worms
Things that I know will work are anything uranium related, particularly the tank for small ones. I don't think tank will work for medium without upgrades. Shock turrets from Fulgora will work on small ones because it arcs down every segment. But you need about 16 of them and expect losses. A medium one will zap them with fire eyes before they can work, unless you have a more intense density or perhaps a power switch to change the engagement pattern I will say it appears the demolisher can't "Hear" turrets. But it can see them.
For medium 120 rounds of artillery with 1 upgrade in each category will work (I was using the map editor). That was 24 guns being fed by bog standard blue arms. So you might try 240 ammo-36 guns when using real ammo. Try a gun train for storage and then place the guns next to it for loading, I know it's a lot of inventory to move at once.
When tanking, know that it has a blind spot in the back. That won't save you if you don't engage with DU. But it will keep your vehicle from being cooked toasty.
They aren't so bad and I plan on keeping a medium wiggly as a pet. I love 'em.

Re: Vulcanus: Kill the worms
I think that I've found the cheapest and easiest way to kill small worms. I killed all of the small worms very easily, and Vulcanis was the first planet I visited outside of Nauvis. No special research required or materials outside of what you can get on Nauvis:
Landmines.

Re: Vulcanus: Kill the worms
For the small ones try some discharge defenses. About 7 should be enough to kill a small worm in a few seconds.
For the medium ones one spidertron, piloted by the player should do the trick. You would need about 20 discharge defenses.
Postion yourself at the tail and spam them as fast as you can, that did it for me with just a little bit of damage at the spidertron.
Of course more spidertrons and more defenses make it easier.

Guys... 1 atomic bomb for small ones. 2 shooted in short time between - for medium. They even dont realise when u kill them.
Re: Vulcanus: Kill the worms
Railgun. 1 shot. Just so not stand between gun and worm, as I did...

Re: Vulcanus: Kill the worms
There is even an endgame solution to the worm problem that only reqiures an initial invest and is completely free afterwards:
As you can sit in a spidertron while you activate the discharge defenses, with a legendary power armor and a legendary spidertron, you can easily kill even the big worms:
Your electric weapons damage reasearch should be at least at lv. 7 for this to work.
Your power armor needs a some bateries, at least 400 MJ, one generator and the rest filled with discharge defenses.
Your spidertron should have 2 or 3 shields equiped, a generator and a baterie capacity of about 250MJ, some exoskelletons for mobility are nice too
All in all you should equip at least 60 discharge defenses.
Now position yourself at the tail of the worm in the last quarter of its lengh.
The key now is to be able to trigger the discharge defenses as quick as possible.
You can either use a macro or autoklicker to do this or you just bind your mousewheel in the secondary slot for using an item.
In about two to three bursts, the worm should be dead before it can even accelerate to attack you.

I used a tank and uranium shells on first visit.

Re: Vulcanus: Kill the worms
I can't find the link, but I used turret tripwire traps.
Basically, you have two fields of turrets loaded with 8-12 AP mags that have a gap the width of a big demolisher between them. On the snare end, set a single turret centered between amd as far out that can reach a logic wire to the two turret fields. Connect the snare turret to both fields. The snare reads, the two trap ends enable when ammo=0. Then you just walk lure turrets out one at a time thru the trap to the range of the previous out at least five or six turrets, also loaded with 8-12 mags. Go piss the demolisher off and bring it toward the furthest lure. Let the trap do the rest. Works on small, medium, and big in a few seconds. Costs more in ammo than it does in turrets. Done right, you'll lose less than twenty turrets of a hundred or so but probably burn near 1/3-1/2 of 1500ish mags.
Re: Vulcanus: Kill the worms
More physical damage tech, the turret damage scales geometrically with it because the tech boosts both the ammo and the turrets. So a turret at tech 7 will effectively deal +300% or 32 with red ammo (double ammo damage* double turret damage) while at tech 9 it will deal +476% (2.4*2.4=5.76) or 46 with red ammo. This is especially important because the demo's physical resistance subtracts 20 from every hit received. It also boosts the cannon shell by +100% per level after tech 5 IIRC. Or go to Fulgora and get Tesla guns, the mech suit helps for not getting cornered by the demo as well.
