Auto move cursor to number entry after signal select

Post by neoChaos12 »

TL;DR:
Upon selecting a signal, the cursor should immediately move to the number entry text field automatically.
Why?
It's a very simple QoL thing that could potentially have a huge impact on ease of use for the signal selection menu for anyone who is fiddling with circuits and is a very logical course of action for the game to take when a player selects a signal. If the player does not want to enter a number for the signal or directly chooses a different signal, the workflow would remain unchanged as the player can simply use their mouse to do so. If a player wants to enter a value, there is no need for a redundant mouse movement. This redundancy becomes annoying rapidly when tens of signals need to be set. I imagine that this would conflict with the behaviour of simply pressing the interact key to directly accept signal choice, but nearly 1000 hours into playing Factorio, my personal experience has been that double-clicking a signal to go with the default value sufficiently covers that use case.
What?
In the signal selection UI, when a signal is selected, the current default behaviour is that a user must then move their cursor to the text field in order to input a non-default value for the signal. This is a redundant step, as once a signal type is selected, the only logical steps for a player to take are to either select a different signal, accept the default value or change the default value. Therefore, the number entry field should automatically become active once a signal is selected. See image for a visual explanation:
