The simple coal liquefaction recipe actually consumes coal at the same rate as the main coal liquefaction recipe. This makes it very convenient to build a complete set of refineries for simple coal liquefaction, with pipework in place for all three oil types, and then upgrade in place by changing the recipe to coal liquefaction when it becomes available. Unfortunately this is not so convenient as it could be, because the simple coal liquefaction recipe outputs heavy oil on all three fluid outputs of the refinery.
I suggest that the simple coal liquefaction be updated to only use the first output fluid box, like how the basic oil processing recipe only used the third for the petroleum gas product. I also think it might be a good idea to use only the second fluid input box for sulfuric acid input. This is the input box which will be used for steam, and on Vulcanus we make steam from sulfuric acid, so I expect this will also ease the transition.
Simple coal liquefaction should use only one fluid input and output, like basic oil processing

I thought this was already how it worked. Pretty weird that it doesn’t. Definitely a +1 from me.

Agreed. More consistency is appreciated, it should work as existing before simple/advanced oil refinery.

ACK, the fluid outputs of oil refineries should be always the same independent of the current recipe (they might be mirrored of course, but every recipe change should never change the output order). - Perhaps a workaround would help with 0 outputs of gas and light oil...
Re: Simple coal liquefaction should use only one fluid input and output, like basic oil processing
Problem is the fluid inputs for the two recipes are completely different. They share nothing with each other like the two oil processing inputs do. (Crude / Crude + Water)
Simple Coal Liquefaction takes in Sulfuric Acid.
Advanced Coal Liquefaction takes in Steam and Heavy Oil.
There's no opportunity to just swap the recipes, you have to rebuild your inputs as well.
