[2.0.28] Rocket silo GUI is flat, even though 'Flat GUI' setting is off.

Bugs that are actually features.

[2.0.28] Rocket silo GUI is flat, even though 'Flat GUI' setting is off.

Post by fmaw »

What did you do?
After downloading Space Age expansion and playing a new game for +- 50 hours on my Linux PC, I finally built a 'Rocket silo'. After clicking on the Rocket silo, I noticed that the GUI did not fit my screen. My screen is an ipad screen to which I stream from my Linux PC. It has 4:3 aspect ratio and 2048x1536 resolution.

In settings, 'Flat character GUI' is turned OFF. All other in-game GUIs so far did fit on my screen by having tabs. This is the first GUI that does NOT fit and still shows as 'flat' (= 3 panels next to each other).

What did you expect to happen instead?
I expected the 'third' panel of the GUI to be accessible by a tab on the 'second' panel. Similar to how the character backpack is laid out.

Does it happen always, once, or sometimes?
Always.

Update: I noticed 'Nidan' describing the same issue in the thread below: "While messing with the window size, to see how the small screen versions look, I noticed the rocket silo doesn't seem to switch to a tabbed version with small windows."

That would make it a related "bug report" indeed but risk being considered a duplicate.

I am going for the "educated guess" that you have a particular reason for using the mentionned setup (ipad as screen), maybe educationnal ? :) and would recommend a "feature request" detailing it, rather than a bug report. It may not gain much traction but would allow for detailing those reasons, and for other players that also wish a flat GUI for the silo for different reasons to express their support for the same change in the game. I think it's possible that devs feels the need to re-assert current behavior is intended to dispell misunderstanding more than acknowledging that there is (still) a desire for a change even if it was clarified that current behavior is intended. ( there is no "why you think this would be a positive change ?" in the "bug report template" ).

Thanks for the report however the setting is "Flat character GUI" not "Flat Rocket Silo GUI". It only applies to the character GUI.

No, it's for leasure. We don't own a TV (on purpose). I still want to game on the couch while looking straight ahead for ergonomic reasons. So I use an ipad in a 'gooseneck' stand on the coffee table with a wireless controller. This way, I can easily store everything away when I'm done.

I'll consider creating a feature request, depending on the outcome of this bug report. Thanks for suggesting it.

Do I understand correctly that the current behavior with 3 panels next to each other is intended? That makes no sense to me! Why create tabs for the other GUIs, but not for this one?

I just tested if I can move the GUI with my controller to at least have a workaround. I can. I need to 'click' the right thumbstick to make the cursor appear. Then move the cursor with left thumbstick to the drag bar of the GUI. Then hold 'A' and move left thumbstick to the left. Like dragging a screen with a mouse on a computer. So it's workable, but not convenient at all.

Thanks, I better understand that now.

FYI, I just noticed that this topic was moved to 'Not a bug' section.

I have asked Rseding91 in PM to confirm if the Rocket Silo GUI not fitting on the screen is intended or not. Or if I described this issue incorrectly (by incorrectly mentioning the 'Flat character GUI' setting).

The GUI will fit on screen at native resolution and 100% scale. If you use > 100% scale or have < native resolution (1920x1080) it won't. I suspect your display scale is > 100% on that resolution.

Correct. I use 150% UI scale.

I understand that this is not a bug. I will instead make a post on the 'Suggestions' forum. Thanks for the quick reponse.
