Regarding the Demolisher - Problem: Only one-time engagement

Post by TheMoe »

Hello,

i love the DLC so far. After 200 hours gameplay on Gleba and Vulcanus,i haven´t encountered one bug. Good job!

In this thread i would like to outline a problem regarding the demolisher and suggest a broad solution and a detailed one.

The Problem:

Dealing with the demolisher is routine and they don´t pose a threat. In my opinion, there are two reasons for this:

- They don´t attack you actively. You can easily avoid them.
- You have to kill one or two of them and that´s it. No other encounters are needed, since you have enough space for a game winning factory.

Sad side effect: The artillery, the most suitable weapon for the job is not even necessary, since nukes and turrets will do the trick. The expenses to kill one
or two small demolishers a negletable

Broad solution:

-The demolisher needs to be a constant threat, like the other enemies in the game.

My idea for a game loop (Artillery needs to be able to auto- target demolishers!):

Demolisher is killed ---> The space is utilised by the player ---> A new demolisher will spawn in an adjacent territory after a certain time (15min?) ---> It will move to the lost territory, reclaiming it and destroying your factory in the process ---> etc.

Since nukes and other effective anti- meassures are expensive and you can´t leave the factory alone without supervision, this gives you the insentive to research artillery, which in turn enables you to automate the solution:

Demolisher is killed---> The new demolisher enters the kill zone of the artillery ---> Your ammunition and therefore your ressources are being depleted ---> You expand ---> etc.

I think this game loop and and enemy behavior is in line with the rest of the game and would make the demolisher a powerful enemy, until you use your brain to automate the problem, like intended. What do you think?

Best regards,

Moritz
