Set Blueprint From Space Platform Hub

Post by antstar »

TL;DR
It would be useful to be able to set the ghost/blueprint curser by clicking on items in the space platform hub

What?
In light of the reply, I suggest that specifically left click be assigned as the default way of setting this ghost, as there is already a way of setting such a ghost if we wish to use the keyboard...
Why?
On my very first delivery to my first platform, I had solar panels, inserters and belts, all in different qualities. It felt like doing battle with the UI to place anything (and I even managed to send something back to the ground, trying to select something from the hub). Gitting good will only speed this battle up. What's in the hub is what will be being built on the platform - it would be much faster to be able to select it directly from there instead of the range off all possible things in all possible qualities.

You know you can just press q when your cursor is over the item right?

Of course I don't know that. Q is for placed items. I just now checked that (for items you are actually carrying only) q can select them from your quickbar. This I didn't know, because left click is more convenient. I do, however, know that pressing random keys while looking at stuff in the space platform hub is a great way to get them sent back to the ground

There's also a setting that let's you use q when in non-remote view but you don't have the item in your inventory (you can ctrl-f for the word "ghost" in the interface settings).

Also, if you do have a real item in your cursor, you can hold shift to place a ghost (this actually 'force' places it, so it's not exactly the same, theres also super force if you hold ctrl-shift, the difference is wether it will overwrite any existing buildings/ghosts, and wether it will also add landfil/platform tile ghosts, but I can't remember exactly).

Oh and you can use ctrl-c, ctrl-x, and ctrl-v to copy, cut, and paste buildings.

Thanks. The only one of these I didn't know how to do - but knew existed - was the first. I just came from more than 1000h of Space Exploration, and there's a better way to place a ghost anywhere. Or at least it was unlikely I needed to place anything from my hotbar

Done. Feels like it should be on by default, but hey.

And thanks, you did teach me something extremely useful. I had no idea we could ctrl-f in menus.

I believe it remains a suggestion.

I cannot achieve this with a rebind - unless I can - please tell me how?

I will use "q" IF I MUST.

But I would appreciate it if the ability to do this with the left mouse button was added to the game. It feels right. In line with how I use the items on my hotbars.

You can rebind 'pipette' (i.e. 'q') to left-click, but then you'll need to rebind 'open objects GUI' (so you can actually open the space platform hub and not just pipette it!), probably a bad idea though (there are lots of bug reports when people rebind keys....)
