Intermittent slow FPS (Waiting For Update)

I'm experiencing intermittent unplayably slow FPS, and slow "catching up" progress bars. I'm on a computer with a decent setup¹, and my friend over multiplayer is not experiencing FPS issues ever. I'm on Windows, he's on Linux, I believe the server is also Linux.

We've reduced bot usage in the base and gone and killed a lot of demolishers, which improved the situation. Today while playing it was mostly at 60FPS for quite a while, but it later dropped to 5 and then I was autokicked from the server.

I plan to also get screenshots when it's working again, but I can't at the moment since I'm literally unable to rejoin the server. Also plan to include the entitity timings.

Any advice would be appreciated!

That is the classic you are too slow for the server issue.

Yeah, that's what I thought initially, but it's strange that it only happens some times, and this is a pretty fast computer! Our base isn't doing anything super insane either. My friend isn't having these issues at all, and he's on a similar computer. He is located physically closer to the server, however.

At the very least there's something about the base that's slowing it down to a crawl on my computer. I'm still trying to investigate numbers.
