Yeah Logistics Chests need to be in the Orange Area to work.

And Buffer Chests can supply Construction Bots while making sure Logistics Bots dont steal the Emergency Building Supplies.

Oh, thanks! I never knew that bots will replace blown up landmines. I seem to remember that not being a thing in 1.1, so I never messed with landmines again.

(I'm traveling without a physical mouse, so I can't try it out right now.)

Knowing this, I will definitely try landmines instead of regular turrets for my next (early) game!!

It definitely was a thing in 1.1, I actually used that.

It is even slightly annoying for Landmines placed outside of Roboport Range, because they all leave Ghosts behind all the time, which then get rebuilt whenever you get close to them with your Portable Roboport...

My problem with landmines is they need roboports. Roboports need a fully automated tileable defense station with a train configured to supply them with whatever they need. I don't want to do that work and if I do it then I'm probably so lategame that I don't really need the efficiency of landmines at all, a bunch of laser turrets and repair packs will do fine.

You still need to supply the Repair Packs, or else the Roboports will run out of those too. Why cant you supply Landmines the same way you supply Repair Packs? After all, Repair Packs also require Roboports.

It is quite trivial to just put a roboport with some bots, and a storage chest where you place your Landmines, then just fill the Chest with a few thousand of them, and not care for a few real life days of non-stop play.

I would argue it is way easier to setup a defensive Roboport at each Biter Bottleneck, than to actually plan out a defensive Wall.

Big worms can out-range any turret except artillery in the base game, so with expansion parties, you'll need either artillery turrets or landmines. (Roboport's construction range does out-range behemoth worms.)

Another late-game option would be Spidertron patrols, where you set the Spidertrons to follow trains in and out of your base, so that they can get resupplied.
Have you considered using flow routers instead of balancers?

In theory big worms can spawn so they out-range flamethrower turrets, but in my practice this is extremely unlikely. Behemoth worms are another matter...
Also you're forgetting about quality turrets.

I didn't forget, but I chose not to include quality. I don't have the DLC, but going off the numbers on the wiki, legendary flamethrower turrets have a range of 45, so they are still out-ranged by behemoth worms. And I assume quality worms would have even more range.

The Space Age rocket and railgun turrets can out-range behemoth worms if they have enough quality, but won't out-range quality worms if they also get more range. Quality roboports don't seem to have a larger range, but they also won't be attacked by worms directly, so I'm not sure how they would deal with worms that out-range them (assuming they exist).

There are no quality enemies. (Which might be an oversight, or by design.)

Quality Spitters and Worms only exist if you make Biter Nests yourself and then somehow manage to set them free, and they then randomly choose to expand to another Chunk using that exact Nest as starting point for the Travelling Group of Biters. It is a painful process to set up, and will likely not even work most of the time.

And yeah, I do keep people without the DLC in mind for this Thread about Landmines, especially since the benefits of Landmines do not require Quality anyways, unless you have very specific use-cases that cannot be solved by researching a few more Levels of Explosion Damage.

I personally also prefer short range Artillery to get rid of Behemoth Worms reliably, as researching Artillery Range causes the Game to actually lag more (more terrain, more biters, more pollution cloud spread, longer biter paths, etc), so having the Biters live closeby and absorb pollution is the better option.

Which brings me back to Landmines and making sure the Bots only rebuild one Landmine at a time, so that the Behemoth Spitters dont just decide to disrespectfully spit on your Landmines as they get placed!

I'm so glad that I read this thread. My wife happened to be reading over my shoulder when I was reading it. Yesterday, I came across a tough problem that I just couldn't solve in Space Age. She was beuing funny when she said, "Have you tried landmines?" It turns out the answer was indeed: landmines!

I guess they didnt like people putting landmine on space stations top blow up asteroids without consequence. Ive seen lots of ships posted to reach edge of solar system or beyond with landmines on the front.
