Ho to open map without zooming out every time?

Don't know how to use a machine? Looking for efficient setups? Stuck in a mission?

Yeah, they broke it.
Funny enough, zoom levels are SAVED for other planets you remote view, but not for the current one. It should be an option in Settings.

I posted this as bug, but Wube still disagree, ignoring the fact, that many people find this map change quite uncomfortable. No idea what else to do, to make them fix it.
As I saw modders also have no success yet in fixing map zoom level.

This is really annoying... Have anyone found a workaround? Apart from scrolling every single time, again and again?

The back/forward system (tied to the mouse keys 4 and 5) is indeed quite powerful, I've learned to appreciate it.

But then I hardly noticed this issue to start with, so take this with a grain of salt.

Same here,
if I want the map of the current planet I just zoom out, if I want to go to another planet, I open the map and select it.
I usually want to look at something different anyway. But I do find the back/forward mouse buttons useful.
I honestly wouldn't have even noticed the change since 1.1 behaviour if people on the forum hadn't been complaining
as there was far less reason to even open the map in 1.1 (admitadly I last played 1.1 like a year ago).

Seeing as it's upset so many people though, wube probably should rember the zoom level (or at least allow an option for that).

The Space Map doesn't save the last view either and it's extremely annoying.

We're complaining that pressing M (or Tab, in my case), shortcut for "Toggle World map" opens the map view rather than a more zoomed-in view. It's doing exactly what its name suggests. Does that means that we're wrong? Not necessarily.

In vanilla Factorio, the map view was the map view: one surface, one map. But in space age, it's more like a remote view. Players use it as a remote view to access distant places on the same surface or on other surfaces. And in 99% of these cases, the purpose is not to display a map, but to view remote locations and interact with it.

So basically, the purpose and features of the "map view" changed overtime, but it's original name and default zoom level remained.
