I find it annoying to have the music change based on where I'm looking as this can frequently change (often resulting in no music), and would prefer the option to have music be based on where I physically am regardless of where I'm looking.

I would like to +1 this. Maybe keep the currently viewed planet's track playing for up to one more minute, or until the track's scheduled end/transition (whichever comes first). Changing the track every time I briefly jump into remote view of a different planet breaks the immersion; and the tracks are truly absolutely amazing and I adore them and I would love to keep experiencing each one in full.

I went as far as extracting the .ogg files from the game data and queuing them up in my desktop music player, and I manually jump around the playlist to make the track match the planet I'm currently spending the most of my time with. The official soundtrack release is also already on my wishlist ;] Related.

In 2.0.21 (the next release) I've added a hidden sound setting "ambient-music-based-on-physical-location", which defaults to false. Changing it to true will, as the name suggests, base the music on the player's physical location (the character's location).

I normally don't use the experimental releases, but for this one feature I'll make an exception.

+1 Love this feature. Just need a radio now to change tracks to each planet after unlock.

Thanks for this! I love the music, but the interruptions when switching between places in Remote View were preventing me from enjoying it. This solves that issue for me.

Perhaps the default should be to pick the track based on the view location, but finish that track even if the view subsequently changes? Regardless, I'm perfectly happy with his hidden setting.

EDIT: For anyone else looking for this setting:
  1. If within a game, press the Esc key to bring up the game menu
  2. While holding the Ctrl+Alt keys (Mac: Control+Option), click the "Settings" button
  3. Click "The rest" button
  4. Scroll down to the "Sound settings" section
  5. Tick the box (☑) for "ambient-music-based-on-physical-location"

You can achieve that by using the other newly introduced hidden settings, see 119871
