The distances between planets are too short
The distances between planets are too short
I feel like the distance between planets (15 000 km currently) should be higher. The trip feels a bit short in my opinion, considering its set in space. I had 6 thrusters on my first travel platform, with the speed being limited to 200 km/s.

its kinda unfortunately short because it has to be. the long voyage comes later, which you have to slow down for anyway or die to ups goblins.

Geostationary orbit on Earth is 35,000 km. Distance from Planet Nauvis to another planet is less than half of this. Nobody talk about this in closed test? For me this is important and need fixed. Travel time - for me isnt important (we need remember about spoilage important, and expiration date, longer travel will break this mechanic).

I don't think it would be possible to have realistic distances, realistic speeds, and remotely reasonable travel times between planets.Alwego wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 3:49 pm Geostationary orbit on Earth is 35,000 km. If the distances were realistic it would be like hundreds of millions of kilometers to reach another planet. At that point it would take like 10 minutes to reach another planet even at the speed of light. I think it would feel extremely odd for the floating scrap piles the engineer makes to travel anywhere close to the speed of light, especially because there would be noticeable relativistic effects at those speeds irl.

Just imagine there are as many extra zeros as you deem fit at the end of all distrance readings. The add the same amout of zeros to the speed readings. Problem solved.Alwego wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 3:49 pm Geostationary orbit on Earth is 35,000 km. Distance from Planet Nauvis to another planet is less than half of this. Re: The distances between planets are too short
I feel like this part of the game is well balanced, because in the worst case scenario, a new player could take 15-25 minutes to a new planet. Impossibly long in game time, with not much to do.
I really like the mechanic being simple in this case, because I want to think about surface logistics, patterns, ratios, etc. I don't want to think about the space trains beyond their design, if that makes sense.
However, I love ksp. I completely understand your need for complexity and scale in space. "Logistics in space" is an untapped market.
