A white inserter stops working if it takes spoilagable resources

Post by korsair »

If a white inserter takes spoiling products to insert into a machine, but does not have time to put them inside before they rot, then it freezes and the machine will never start working until the player manually resets the rot. Is this intended, or is it a bug? If we delve deeper into the topic, then theoretically, this can happen with any inserter, if it simply does not have time to turn around.

Yes that is, unfortunately, a potential on Gleba. If the outputs from a machine get blocked for any reason - such as a full output belt - and the machine inserters sit there long enough, the inputs will spoil. It is, unfortunately, not even that uncommon on Gleba when things go wrong.

It doesn't look like a bug, and the only idea I have to prevent this is to implement a system that forces space on the output belt. Eg., a priority splitter that goes to a heating tower or recycler, and a red wire that blocks the belt for a split second when an output inserter has something in its hand. That would ensure machines always output as fast as possible. But if the inserters pick up a nearly spoiled ingredient, this could happen at any time as an edge case.

The joy of Gleba. It would be nice if the inserter could place spoilage in the machine anyway, just to clear the block - and maybe it does, for small quantities of input spoilage. I'm not sure about that.

Why even use stack inserters to put things into a machine? A bulk inserter can do the same thing. Stack inserters make items stacked on belts

Slightly larger hand size. 16 versus 12.

Still very dangerous to use on Gleba.

The green inserter reduces the height of the pack on the belt, as a result of which the compression and throughput of the belt decreases.
