Tested version: 2.0.20 (build 80511 expansion, mac-arm64, standalone)
Mods: base, elevated-rails, quality, space-age
Setup: get two spidertrons with roboports, construction robots, and some power source; set up one to request some building materials (belts, inserters, chests, etc) and another with no requests. Enable "trash unrequested" on both. Go outside main base roboport coverage.
Case 1: Build something using the first spider. Move the second spider away. Deconstruct what you built; items end up in the first spider's main inventory (all good).
Case 2: Build something using the first spider. Move the first spider away. Deconstruct what you built; items end up in the second spider's trash slots. Build something else again. The items from the second spider's trash slots won't be used for construction, and there is no way to move them remotely back to the main inventory without the use of another roboport or spider.
I've also tested some variations, like having the same requests on the second spider in case 2; once some of its inventory overflowed and went to trash, it couldn't place items from trash. So having homogenous (less flexible!) spider squads is not a long-term workaround; enough building/unbuilding (e.g. when prototyping an outpost thru remote view) will "lock up" many key items in trash slots.
The only workarounds I could find is to A. send spiders back to base where their inventories can be reorganised by logistic bots; B. disable "trash unrequested" on each spider in the squad, and right-click on each item in the trash so that a different spider can pick it up. So the minimum squad size must be 2 for the latter workaround.
The expected behaviour would be that spiders could just build directly from their trash slots.
I've also briefly tested tanks (but not any modded vehicles), the behaviour appears to be consistent.
Spidertron squads (or other vehicles) won't build using items in trash slots

Dang I swear I've looked for a related report!
But I guess the problem is now much more prominent with auto-trash and remote everything.
