Startup of Space Age causing CPU to spike to 100C

Post by Causality »

This is not a thing which regularly occurs with my CPU, only a few games have caused this. Whenever I launch Space Age from Steam during the initial load screen I will see my CPU temp jump from normal temps to 100C for a second or two, usually once but sometimes twice. I noticed this happened a few times in the past, usually when initializing shaders for a new game, most recently when I first booted up The Last of Us. It also never happened before Space Age, vanilla Factorio gave me no such issues. If you could fix this it would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hey there, thanks for the report. Factorio tries to use as many cores as possible to improve the loading times at startup. If your PCs thermal design is not able to keep up with this, I’d recommend you invest in some better cooling. There‘s also a setting in config.ini to reduce the number of threads Factorio uses when loading sprites.

Sorry for the distraction, but holy shit that remaster is poorly optimized, it took my desktop with a dedicated graphics card (RX470) FOUR HOURS to initialize those shaders the first time, and even then it ran poorly...
P.S.: And this was after a patch that supposedly improved this issue !
