2.0.15 - Unable to delete Space Platform Foundations

Post by cheezem4n »

Hello,

Myself and at least one other user (see related discussion here: viewtopic.php?t=120260) are experiencing issues with being unable to delete Foundations on space platforms. The behavior is inconsistent as well, although the end result is always not being able to delete them.

On my first space platform, I have never been able to delete the platform Foundations at all. Using Alt+D or a deconstruction planner marks the foundations with a red X like they are going to be deleted, but nothing actually ever happens. There is nothing preventing the deconstruction (i.e. there is plenty of storage space, there is nothing going on with logistics preventing them, they are unoccupied tiles, etc).

I built a second space platform to test, and without doing anything else to the starter platform I was able to delete the default foundations. However I then added a few basic buildings (inserters, belts, mk3 factory, etc) and then was NOT able to delete them any more (it still marks them with an X, but nothing ever happens).

The other user (in the linked thread) reported that loading their save on a different computer caused it to start working, and other users that tried the save also had no issues deleting the foundations. So it seems potentially related to the local environment it is running on (although I have a fresh install of the OS and not much else).

After 75h with Space Age this is the only issue I've found, so something weird is going on. But it's a pretty big issue, it adds a LOT of extra materials/mass to platforms and makes it basically impossible to do anything that looks like a 'nice' build.

My save is attached, although like I said it seems to be something that may work on other computers.

Hello, I can't reproduce your issue. Please try updating your game to the latest experimental version (2.0.17) and record a video of the broken behavior.

Hi Genhis,

I appreciate the time. I think I figured it out. It's that the foundations cannot be deleted where they would create a 'hole' in the ship - BUT, there is no warning about this. I only discovered this restriction was the cause many hours later when trying to build (not delete) foundations to create a 'hole', and only then does a notification/warning pop up saying creating a hole is not allowed. There is no warning when the foundations you are trying to delete will create a hole and will never be removed, it just looks like they are marked successfully for deconstruction but sit there forever.

I think it's quite natural for a player to be using deconstruct to remove pieces (and inadvertently create holes) before they discover that behavior when building, perhaps it would be a good enhancement request to add a warning on the deconstruct side that the foundations cannot be removed because they would cause a hole in the platform.

Thanks and this thread can be closed if appropriate.
