Dear forum members,
I'd like to add ambient music to the game (such mods exist).
In my opinion, "Moby - LA" album perfectly fits into the game.
Could you please tell, what does it potentially violate? I am just curious.
- Probably, any copyrighted materials are prohibited in the mods?
- If (just potentially) "copyright is shared somehow within this case", is it allowed from now-on?
[Question] Music copyrights in mods
Re: [Question] Music copyrights in mods
For starter it violates the term of services of the mod portal which says :
https://factorio.com/terms-of-serviceAll mods uploaded must have the permission from the author of the mod, and must not contain any copyrighted material unless it is permitted by the appropriate copyright owner.
Any inappropriate behaviour by users in the discussions feature can lead to account deactivation.
Re: [Question] Music copyrights in mods
An alternative would be a mod that uses a streaming service either with ads or paid account, or radio streams - similar to what you have in Euro Truck Simulator
Re: [Question] Music copyrights in mods
There also exist ambient music available on the internet that have no copyrights associated with them, unlike the album mentionned.
Making a mod with the Moby album wouldn't violate anything actually if you own the album, but it's publishing it on the portal / making it available to the public, the step that potentially violate the TOS and copyright things.
If using other music, the rules could be different.
