[2.0.15] Lag spikes, just started and are now crashing the game

Post by afr33sl4ve »

I started noticing lag spikes in the last couple of hours or so, and 1 such spike caused the game to crash.

I did disable mods (factory planner + max rate calculator + PUMPS), as a troubleshooting measure, and the lag spikes persist.

I captured a performance log and have attached my latest save, as I don't know where to go from here.

Attached 2 new items. What happened in game update? And the single thread spikes correspond with the lag.

I found it.

It's the offshore pumps controlling my nuclear power on Nauvis.

Absolutely wild how it brought the entire game to a halt, and actually caused a crash.

Nvm, lag spikes are persisting.

Updated to 2.0.20 again as a troubleshooting measure. Still cannot explain these lag spikes.

Can you take a screenshot of the update times when the lag spike happens?

Sure. I already have one in the OP. I'll take a new one shortly.

EDIT: Here they are. The one with frame cycle 18 was taken just as it was happening, but the numbers hadn't rendered yet. Used Steam to capture it.

From the screenshots it shows that the time is being spent on belts. Was your factory mostly idle and then it started moving a bunch of items on belts when the lag started?

Could it be this? This is the first time I'm playing with biters, so it's also the first time I have a defensive perimeter on both Nauvis and now Gleba.

Oh, I might need to refactor some parts of this base...

Ok, I refactored significant portions of my base on Nauvis, cutting out effectively ~20k belts. The lag spikes persist.

Latest save attached, using 2.0.20.

Ok, I'm sorry for the multi posts, but I think I solved the mystery.

I decided to clean out my perimeter defense belt from explosives to regular rockets. I, then, noticed that the random lag spikes went away almost immediately. Huh. Then, I decided to add a maximum limit of ammo on the belt, and pick up the excess red magazines. Another lag spike, but that was the last one. Ok, peculiar.

Then, I noticed that I was reading double the amount on the belt by having a read all belts on either side of the right most splitter. Verified by scanning the entire belt for any other splitters or breaks, then by removing the wires from that belt and adding only 1 back.

Either way, yeah. Found the culprit and it was of my own doing.

I'm back.

Unfortunately, with the same issue. Is there a way to determine where (which planet) this lag is happening, aside from just blindly guessing?

Because this is the first time I have encountered this and it's honestly quite off-putting.

Could be related? viewtopic.php?f=7&t=122454

Tested, definitely related.

Removed all my read all belts and the 250+ transport line updates dropped to 10, immediately.
