[2.0.15] Stack inserter locks up when emptying a chest with mixed content.

Post by torlek85 »

I had chests filled with scrap of mixed quality. I was unloading the chests using a stack inserter. At some point, the stack inserter would get stuck even though the chest was partially filled. The inserter was waiting for more items of one quality even though items of other qualities were available.

Thanks for the report however this is intended. Stack inserters will always wait for full stacks. If you do not have full stacks they will get stuck like this. If you do not want that behavior do not use stack inserters.
If you want to get ahold of me I'm almost always on Discord.

Not sure if this is the correct place to discuss this, but I don't think that is good behaviour, certainly not when quality is active. I'm sure I'm not the only one who uses quality modules in the mines, and the best inserters I've got to fill&empty the trains. Of course if the train is also filled with stack inserters and there's no manual "interference" it'll work - but I don't think it's absurd to have lower inserters to fill and empty the trains originally, and then upgrade just the unload in your base - leaving your trains to get stuck. And if I'm not mistaken it's quite common in the later game to just upgrade everything to the maximum, which would cause problems all over the place.

So I'd like to propose that the stack inserter should stop waiting for the stack to fill eventually.
