Simply put, there are a number of times when you want to place down ghosts on platforms but not have them immediately build (i.e. you're planning out/overhauling your platform design). I know part of this functionality is covered by disabling auto construction requests but it would be helpful if we could also just toggle construction manually so it doesn't try to build ghosts until you toggle it construction back on.
Right now one of the most obvious pain points is when you place an inserter next to the hub, and before you can set a filter, it builds and starts chucking items out into the void, which can include your precious quality items. In general inserters are something of a main offender here because unlike on the ground once they swing you can't just pick up the item.
That said I realise this might introduce an unintended risk where you forget to toggle construction back on and then the platform explodes because it doesn't automatically rebuild damaged sections.

Yah, I would extend not only to space platform, but be able to place ghost without they immediately get build by any construction bot as well, like a pause for construction blueprints.
What I'm doing with my space building now, is placing the ghost 1 tile away from the ship, so its not connected, therefor it doesn't build it, then cut and past where it connects. So you basically place everything you want in the design you want, away from the landing pads, then cut and past on top of it when you are done editing.
A pause system for blueprints would be interesting for sure!

+1 for this. Something like a separate ghost layer that isn't built by bots / platform until told to do so would be amazing. Right now if we don't want to use any mods we have to plan our blueprints far away from the bot network, which can be really inconvenient. Not to mention it doesn't let us integrate our plans with the existing base really well.

Nice idea! Would make planning and playing around with setups way easier.
Now I have to use a mod or reload a bit to avoid the mess the autobuild creates.
