Hi team,
First of all: thanks for such a great game!
I am left handed and use arrow keys for character navigation, I also use them to navigate around the map. It all worked fine until I unlocked space, now every time I open the map and want to navigate up or down I get into the space view and there is no way to rebind it as far as I can see in the controls settings.
Suggest to make those actions configurable.
Thanks
Map navigation using arrow keys is broken once space is unlocked

as a possible workaround: in remote view, you can click and drag to pan the view via mouse
[edit] I think "next surface" / "previous surface" is indeed configurable in the control settings, should be bound to arrow keys

Hello, try removing the arrow key bindings for "next surface" and "previous surface" as valneq suggested.
Re: Map navigation using arrow keys is broken once space is unlocked
I bound my surface toggling to the "N" and "shift-N" keys. Quite logical and convinient as the N key isnt used elsewhere and sits next to the M key

Re: Map navigation using arrow keys is broken once space is unlocked
To unlock space platforms, one has to play the game for many hours. During this time you develop very strong muscle memory around keyboard navigation, including using arrow keys in map view.I am left handed and use arrow keys for character navigation, I also use them to navigate around the map.
It all worked fine until I unlocked space[…]
Because of muscle memory, I think the default cursor key bindings need to work well in late game, i.e. existing map navigation behavior should not suddenly break part way through the game when space platforms are unlocked.Suggest to make those actions configurable.
Recommendation:
1. Definitely keep cursor key bindings for map view navigation. This is essential for left-handed mouse players.
2. Either:
a) Remove or change up/down cursor key bindings for next/previous surface to be something else
b) Some other change that splits surface views and map view, for example:
- [M] key brings up map --> cursor keys move around the map
- [TAB] key brings up list of surfaces --> up/down keys navigate surface list
- It's still possible to show the list of surfaces in the top left on the map view,
and show the map view when selecting surfaces, but make it so that which
has 'focus' and where/how the cursor keys bind depends on whether
[M] or [TAB] was pressed. In addition, clicking on the map or on one of the
surfaces could move focus between the underlying map view and overlaid
surfaces list
Note, this works only when the placement cursor is not set to an item, i.e. you'll be stuck if you want to place an item remotely via map view and use cursor keys to move around the map.as a possible workaround: in remote view, you can click and drag to pan the view via mouse
Great workaround. Thanks.[edit] I think "next surface" / "previous surface" is indeed configurable in the control settings, should be bound to arrow keys
Great suggestion. Thanks. This key binding seems to work pretty reasonably.I bound my surface toggling to the "N" and "shift-N" keys. Quite logical and convinient as the N key isnt used elsewhere and sits next to the M key
An alternative suggestion (to be implemented as a possible fix for this issue):
- Pressing [TAB] while in the game brings up surface view, then…
--> pressing [TAB] (repeatedly) moves to the next surace
--> pressing [SHIFT-TAB] (repeatedly) moves to the previous surface
--> [ESC] returns to the game
