[pard] [2.0.15] Factoriopedia entry for oil ocean tile does not show rail support as placeable

Post by _alphaBeta_ »

The Factoriopedia entry for the oil ocean does not mention that elevated rail supports can be built on it. If you happened to miss the FFF on Fulgora in February, and didn't happen to try the rail planner - you'd have no idea, like me. This heavily impacted my first experience and setup on Fulgora since I quickly found out that most structures cannot be build on this tile. So naturally, I consulted the Factoriopedia to see if anything could be build on this tile and only foundation is listed. For my current (first) playthrough, foundation is a much farther away tech since I visited Fulgora first, and I unnecessarily squeezed a small setup on a scrap-rich island thinking there were no other options.

I'd suggest simply adding the icon for the elevated rail support to "allows placement of" for the oil ocean tile entry.
Similar comment for the "rail support foundation," (from Vulcanus tech) that should be listed in the deep oil ocean Factoriopedia entry.

Both would help newer players of Space Age, who didn't want to read too many spoilers, have a bit more information before first landing on each planet and trying their own setup.

Thank you for your input, but this isn't the right place to show it. "Allows placement of" is strictly for entities that change to tiles. Maybe the name of this section is a bit misleading. It had a different name during the playtesting phase, and we had to rename it because it was even more confusing. It is described in the technology description, and since it is not intended for manual placement as a primary way to handle it, the rail planner will show you that it is a possibility. We have several entities with unique placement conditions. Rail support on fluid tiles, rail ramp, and offshore pump on the shoreline; asteroid collector and thrusters on the edge of the platform. I don't have a good way to deal with all entities with unique tile restrictions. If I think of something better, it would be a candidate for 2.1.
