[2.0.15] Infinite resource exploit/bug.

Post by Osseon »

This bug allows you to farm high quality parts such as legendary parts for free. Potentially very exploitative and game breaking.

When using an EM plant, or Cryo plant or anything else that gives a lot of productivity. I was able to cancel the recipe when the productivity gives you a free bonus resource but before the recipe completes.

This results in refunding all the resources used to start the recipe but you also get the bonus "productivity" resource.

Steps to replicate:

1) Select a recipe in a EM plant such as blue chips.
2) Add productivity modules until productivity is about 100%, probably closer to 115%.
3) Add all the ingredients for something such as a legendary red circuit board or blue processor unit.
4) Watch productivity bar closely until it is complete.
5) Cancel the recipe and get refunded ingredients + free productivity part.
6) Recycle the part for free surplus parts to make more parts.

Infinite resources.

Additionally in order to get to this stage you must have spent hundreds of thousands of resources to research those levels of productivity which means you’d need to do this for hours and hours before you got into any kind of net positive state.

Alternatively you just let machines run on their own and they produce a free item every craft or more 🤷‍♂️

When a craft starts, ingredients should be consumed. Nothing wrong with that.

There are a few situations where consuming ingredients when a crafting starts is very bad though. For example, suppose I want to craft just a single item, like an epic engine, but I use the Ctrl+Click shortcut to add a lot of ingredients at once to the assembler. In this case it would start crafting a second one right after the first is done, which I would cancel because I only wanted one. It would be unfair to lose the ingredients in this case.

I think you are misunderstanding.

If I select to craft a legendary processing circuit (blue chip) and load it up with all the legendary ingredients, I can then get a free productivity blue chip, then cancel the recipe before it finishes and consumes the resources. I get REFUNDED + Extra. Consuming zero resources.

I have now generated a legendary blue chip I can then recycle into several legendary red chips and green chips. This can easily be exploited using circuit commands to generate dozens of legendary blue chips and hundreds of greens and reds using recyclers. Which can then further be broken down into nearly any legendary parts you would need.

This isn't using resources; this is generating them out of thin air like a replicator.

How could the devs leave this intentionally? I've already created several legendary items just using this method.
