[2.0.16][MacOS] - It is impossible to throw ALL fish into a body of water

I very often build railroads across bodies of water. I have a huge amount of fish in my inventory, last time I had 3k fish.
If you throw the fish through the key “Z” exactly into the water - then in the hand always remains usually 4 items, rarely less. Even if there are still a lot of filled stacks in the inventory. If you take a full stack - sooner or later still stops throwing out.
And everything can be thrown ashore, even these remaining fish.
Is it so designed so that the character did not starve to death?

You can only place fish in water 5 by 5 because when you fish you get 5 of them at a time i suppose, you need the quantity to be a multiple of 5 for no leftover according to my fishing experiments x)

You ""can"" throw several stacks in a row if you start by a stack that is a multiple of 5, not sure if that makes sense, but if you start with one that has 32 fish, you will have 2 left, and it won't make a 5 fish group and get stuck as you describe

Its an easter egg that i made slightly for fun without fully understanding how to make drop item logic work reliably with this as it often selects a fish causing it to stop dropping. If its causing problems, given it is not strictly required for gameplay purpose i will have to reconsider if it can be saved or if it should be the there at all.

And as mmmPI noticed, they drop only if you have 5 of them since this is proportional to how much you get for picking up a fish.

If I had a WHOLE 4 fish left - it wouldn't be stressful, but when I have 3k fish piled up in my inventory and a bunch of stacks - I have to go into inventory several times and grab full stacks.

It is a pretty fun easter egg, it would be sad to see it removed. Would letting inserters put fish in the water instead be simpler? It would fit nicely, since we can get them out of water with inserters already.

Now that fish breeding is a fully intended feature, i was hoping the ability to insert fish into bodies of water with inserters was added too.
