New to circuits (since SE...), what do you think about this asteroid contrl logic?

Post by Rauschkind »

so, i never botherd much with circuits, but fulgora and asteroids made me do it XD
so i made this spaceship. it has a central cruncher with a belt loop around it. a decider is feed the 3 rocktypes by a constant combintator, and looks at that loop. if a rock type is below 6, it will set the filter for that rock to all the inserters that currently show "no filter".

each collector is controlled by a constant combinator and a decider. the decider will set the filter if it has less then 12 of any rock type in its internal buffer.

finally, inserters that feed the belts leading to the loop look at the feeding belt. if it has more then 1 rock on it, the inserter will be disabled. otherwhise, it will feed one rock of the type set by the filters.

so, im quite proud. it took me quite a while to figure out a way to utilize the internal buffer of the collectors without jamming my belts.

so, what do you think about this? what is your solution for this problem? do you have a more easy solution, preferably with fewer combinators? my ships is quite jammed and i would lvoe to swap out a few for more accumulators XD

Is nice, I've basically done the same thing with the collectors. Minor difference that you might find nice: to save space/combinators, I've run a wire from a single combinator to all the collector set-ups, so don't need a new constant combinator every time. I've also changed the ratio to buffer more oxide asteroids, as smelters + hub + ammo belt + ammo storage already buffer so much iron for me, and I don't need much carbon at this early stage (so I thinks its 6/5/23 iron/carbon/oxide).

Very nice!

I use the hub. I keep my rock buffer in there, and set the filters on my grabbers by comparing the inventory with a constant combinator. I don't buffer a lot of rocks, instead I buffer the crusher outputs which stack a lot better. I use the same method for deciding which of those outputs I don't have enough of in the hub. I have two crushers for each asteroid type, and I use the desired level of sulfur, calcite, and copper to change them to standard or advanced processing.

I have belts leading into my hub, and it always accepts everything that comes in, which prevents jams. Instead, I turn off the machines when I don't need more of what they produce. And I feed them with belts going out of the hub, mostly a single resource per lane, but I do have one smart sushi loop.

EDIT: I will probably stop using the hub for this, because it makes it difficult to shift-click to drop items when the inventory is constantly changing.

I like your ship! The way I did it was let all the collectors get anything and feed that into a chunk sushi with a relief splitter using the new read-all-belts feature.
A belt is enabled when there are too many of one type of chunk on the sushi right behind a filtered splitter. This is my first design, no idea if it is really any good.

I do it in a similar way to use the grabber buffers. Then i just insert into a sushi belt.

In your design it can happen, that the inserter before the sushi belt cant reach anything, doesnt it? If you requested 6 ice shard before and then you switch to metallic for example. Mby you can get rid of those inserters and just combine all belts signals (sushi + feeding ones) to insert from the grabbers.
