Specific Heat in Factoriopedia

Post by MrGrim »

I've been trying to work things out entirely in game using Factoriopedia and experimentation as an exercise and for fun. Recently I was trying to work out what the energy content of 1 degree of heat is in entities that store heat; reactors, heat pipes, and heat exchangers for example.

Long story short I did eventually work out that it differs per entity, and I broke my rule and checked outside the game in the game files. Turns out this value is defined per entity in its heat buffer object as "specific_heat". My goal was to determine how much energy would be stored in the heat holding elements of a reactor system so I could minimize steam storage. If I could work out how many Joules the heat system could contain I could subtract that much steam out of the storage buffer.

My suggestion is this info be somehow exposed in Factoriopedia. It could be theoretically worked out. The trickiest part is breaking the assumption that 1 degree of heat is the same for each entity one might make (I did). However, in the spirit of what Factoriopedia is trying to be, it would be awesome to see it there.

That's it. Thanks!

+1, the ideal situation is that all information that's relevant to gameplay (and this surely qualifies) is made available in-game.
