Getting cargo from rockets to space platform is such a pain in the ass.

Post by Eram »

I understand not wanting to waste resources sending an under-filled rocket up. But for the love of god I don't need 50 combinators on my space platform, I don't care if it's a waste just load and ship the one for the love of god. Better yet, why can't the game smartly fill rockets with odds and ends. When I paste down a blueprint and I'm short like- 5 inserters 1 furnace 20 belts a few solar panels and combinators, I'd much rather they be all packed into the same rocket, rather than a stack of each shipped with 5 rockets. This is tolerable, albeit annoying when you have access to the rocket silo with your player character, but trying to micromanage rockets when you're on a different planet is a whole new level of annoying. I want to be able to just paste a blueprint and not worry about having a full stack of all the individual odds and ends, which I'll then likely just ship back down anyways because I don't want them wasting inventory space doing nothing but collect dust up in the space platform.

Yea it is a bit annoying at times.

Well, if you don't care whether sending a rocket with a single item in it will be wasteful... you totally can set up custom requests on the space platform and during setting up that request override the minimum amount that is sent per shipment.

But that would also require you to know what kind of items you want on the platform so you can request them manually yourself. You would need to disable the auto-request construction materials for it or otherwise it will try to ship tons of stuff you don't need. ^^

You know I was just thinking about this, the game already has what could be a great tool for this. Request groups! If they just added "total weight" to each group, and then a little tickbox for "launch together" it would be perfect.

This has been annoying when starting to build multiple higher-quality space platforms, because not only do I not need whole stacks of rare cargo bays, asteroid crushers, chemical plants, and assembling machines, I don’t *have* them either, so the rockets won’t auto-launch and I have to manually fill a rocket just to get the platform built at all.

(Of course, this problem does go away with a sufficient buffer of items, provided you drop the unused ones back to the planet. But it’s no fun when you’re just barely able to afford making the items and don’t have powerful quality modules.)
