When I research fluid handling, I get inundated with recipes I don't yet know: All the "fill barrel" and "empty barrel". In regular factorio, it was mostly OK, but now it's got stuff like "Fill Fluoroketone (Cold)". This seems absurd that I would know how to set a recipe for that when I've barely finished red and green science.
Instead, you should teach me that recipe when I learn how to make the fluid in the first place - I assume, on another planet.

This makes sense to me. It's always been a little weird when I get dozens of barreling and unbarrelling recipes for fluids I've never even heard of yet. It would make sense for the barreling and unbarrelling for each fluid to unlock when I otherwise have the capability of obtaining or making that fluid.

So basically, the need is to unlock the (un)barelling recipe for a given fluid only when both conditions are true :
1) barreling researched
2) fluid discovered

Some time ago it was possible to avoid barrel in/out research completely, because it was separate research topic. So it was possible to get rid of extra menu recipes, that I never planned to use.
I'm not sure how necessary barrels become for space transportation, but at times 1.xx, I never used a barrel at all. Minimum volume is one rail tank, everything else transported by pipes.

I think this might actually be considered a bug, due to the inconsistency with other fluids found later in the game. I see the fluoroketone recipes as well way earlier than I should as you do. But I see at least four or five other fluids discoverable later in the tech tree that I don't have barreling recipes for yet (as I would expect).
