[2.0.13] Computer shuts down when dropping to Gleba

Post by jazzmachine »

I was excited to first land on Gleba the first time, but my computer would shut down each time after launching from the space platform, before passing through the clouds to the surface. After some trials, I found that if I adjust the zoom level after entering the drop pod in space, my computer would not shut down; the game would just stutter slightly as I passed through the clouds. After this, it would proceed smoothly with, or without adjusting zoom until I restart Factorio. I can reproduce the shutdown after restarting. Any Idea what is happening?

Shutdown as in "automatically closing all applications in a controlled manner and prepare everything for switching off" or

crash to BIOS and restart?

The latter: instant power down to BIOS restart.

This is a hardware issue with your PC, I'd start with the PSU, 500W seems a bit on the low end for your CPU and GPU. As Factorio with lower zoom level doesn't overload your system you can also try to reduce your graphics settings, e.g. lowering the sprite resolution to medium.

in 2024 a software simply can't provoke this, it's almost always the OS/driver or the hardware. You probably overheat. Check temperature of cpu, try use https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html and look at temperature, CPU at >95 is generally dangerous and GPU >85 is very high but it's depend on your specific hardware and I'm too lazy to check yours.

It was the PSU. Upgrading to 850w solved the issue.
