Crash - unable to create sprite
Im getting a crash which seems to be happening more often the longer i play. At first it only happened when i closed the full screen map. Now after around 8 hours of play i get the crash when loading a save game. If i start the game in the default windowed mode i dont get the crash but if i play in fullscreen mode or maximize the window i crash. The error message reads Unable to create sprite (2048x2048) or (1920x1080) probably not enough video memory. I have a 2gb video card and am playing with dytech and treefarm mods using version 0.11.6.

What OS? It's been a long time since I last tried DyTech, but afaik it needs quite a lot of graphics memory. It's entirely possible that you just ran out. As a workaround you can try using low graphics mode (in graphics settings, you need to restart the game after changing it).

Hi, i have just that same problem. When i play without mods everything is ok, v 0.11.8.
Today i install some mods:
DyTech-Automation_1.3.2
DyTech-Core_0.13.3
DyTech-Energy_1.5.0
DyTech-Inserters_1.2.0
DyTech-Modules_1.3.0
DyTech-Transportation_1.3.0
RailTanker_0.0.7
and now when i try to start new map or something, ive got this error: http://scr.hu/1vv8/k3pwi problem... Sometimes (1920x1080)...
When i delete Rail Tanker i can play normaly with DyTech, but sometimes i get crash.
I have Radeon R9 270 [2GB VRAM] , 8GB RAM, 4 core CPU so my PC isnt bad. So how i can have low video ram to load some texture in the BEGGINING of the game if i can (theoretically ofcourse) enough VRAM to load Factorio [~200MB] 10 times ;d
btw. sorry for my very bad english.
I can understand memory leaks etc. when i play hours. But how i cant load some texture even before map started?
this texture have 2000MB or what ? ;d
Sure when i put graphics on LOW it load map and works (dont test how long), but thats not the point and not the solution for me...

2GB is not that much for all the mods. You have to understand that all the graphics in factorio distribution (those 200MB) are compressed. When starting the game, all of it gets uncompressed and stored into VRAM and that is much more.
To diagnose the problem, try the workarounds linked in https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... f=7&t=3636 under Broken graphics and Empty graphics, all of them work by reducing the graphics memory requirements.
Another option is disabling some or all of the mods.

same problem for me after updating from 0.11.3 to 0.11.8
in 0.11.3 i have massive crazy factory 8 DyTech mods and game working perfect for me (saving lag ...)
but in 0.11.8 i can't play my old map because of crashes even then i try start new map i have problems

I'm having this problem in 0.11.10, not because I have too many mods loaded, but seemingly because I've explored too much of the map. I was trying out RSO with modifications to include Bob's ores, and finally discovered some oil a long way away from my base. Just before I reached the oil wells, my save started crashing on load with 'Unable to create sprite (2048X2048) probably not enough of video memory.'
Prior to this, it was working just fine. Setting graphics to low quality fixes the issue, but isn't preferable, obviously.

You might also try experimenting with the max-texture-size=2048 (this is a workaround for broken detection of memory problems), and with bitmap caching (the higher the setting, the more bitmaps are kept out of graphics ram). Some of these options might enable you to use the game without low graphics mode.
