Bots stacking in roboport with tons of repair packs

Post by RoyalFoxy »

I have this weird behaviour that when I have damages to my walls bots closeby with available repair packs dont get out of their roboport but instead robots from my main base that are already in the air go to the wall and then settle inside the roboports there. This leads to my roboports having hundreds of repair packs and cunstruction bots and none are used to repair the wall.

Below is an image of a roboport that has this issue. Tons of bots and repair packs and there are frequent attacks at the walls as you can see by the corpses but after looking at this roboport for over half an hour I didnt see a single bot repair any walls nearby. There always was a bot flying in from the center of the base where there are many bots flying around to go and repair the walls

EDIT:

I just checked how many repair packs Ive crafted in my 50~ hours of playtime and it's an insane 14k while I used a total of 62 ...

I also removed my repair pack assembler and now it seems that bots closer come to repair but not the bots in the roboport 10 tiles away from the damage but more so 5 roboports away

What's your repair packs manufacturing setup then? It's very important.

Packs grabbed by construction bots are fully removed from logistics network.
(and theoretically construction bots might nab repair packs from different logi networks. . .)
So if there are large-scale repairs going on - of course there will be some surplus manufactured.
Depending on how exactly you limit the production now, there can be different options for fixing it.

Before doing any changes I had a single assembler putting packs into a storage chest with a limit of 100 packs set on the inserter. I only have a single large robot network I never had large scale repairs, the most were maybe 20 walls and 3 flame thrower turrets.

I never directly put the repair packs into roboports but I checked by watching the chest, bots frequently came there to pick up new fresh repair packs even tho there were thousands in roboports all over the network just waiting to be used.

I now disabled the assembler and the bots seem to actively use the repair packs in the roboports however they still seem to travel from the other side of the base to repair the walls their even tho the closest roboport to the damaged walls has 700 repair packs and hundreds of construction bots idling

These are all the places I have repair packs in. You can clearly see that the majority are in roboports at the wall but I can see construction bots flying all over the place to repair walls

Ye it looks like its the same issue. I just wonder why now that I turned my chest off the bots are still traveling from the other side of the base to repair stuff

The bots in the blue rectangle traveled the red distance to go to the black circle to repair some damaged walls there but the roboport literally 5 tiles south the damaged walls has rapair packs inside

I've marked this issue as well. Hoping it gets some more attention.

I tested my network with buffer chests to clear every storage chest in the network of repair packs (so the only repair packs, over 3,500 of them, in my base were all in roboports except 200 which were in a buffer chest). Robots attempting to repair would prioritize getting repair packs from this one, singular buffer chest even when there were packs available in closer roboports, traveling absurd distances to achieve this.

I'm also seeing this error, and I've captured a video, in case it helps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5BYEV0gm_E

I also have an assembler making repair packs, with an inserter connected to a storage chest. The inserter reads the contents from the chest and stops working past a certain value. I believe OP is doing the same thing.

Yep, this looks exactly like the issue I'm seeing in my game. Currently, the only repair packs I have in my network are either in roboports or in a single buffer chest. The buffer chest is taking priority over any roboport with a pack in the entire network. I'm on version 2.0.14 as of this morning.
