Space Science is bottlenecked in non-Space Age factorio by a maximum of ~8 concurrent, continuous rocket launches. With any more silo, Space Science is not delivered fast enough to keep pace and is not delivered to the Cargo Landing Pad before the next rockets launch. This appears to create a growing backlog of Space Science deliveries, which is only caught up on if rocket launches are paused.
What did you do?
- In sandbox 'god mode' environment, building and testing factory units...
- Built a rocket factory section around a grid of 24 rocket silo, the purpose is to lauch as many rockets as possible from this grid, continuously.
- Updated to current version [2.0.11]
- With the update, I noticed the rocket recipe changed and temporarily replaced the factory block with infinity chests to supply Processing Units.
- With the update, I noticed that Space Science is now delivered to a Cargo Landing Pad, not each silo.
- I tested the throughputs and noticed a drop in Space Science.
What happened?
- Space Science packs were no longer available at their previous rate
- Now that Space Science packs now arrive to a single Cargo Landing Pad via Cargo Pods, they arrive slowly in groups of a maximum of three and that the arrivals are spaced about 10 seconds apart.
- I tested this over a few launch cycles and found that over two full launch cycles I was only getting 15k space science packs. Stopping the rocket launches, the full 48k arrive eventually, but obviously this places an upper limit on space science pack creation rate.
- It appears that this introduces a upper ceiling to Space Science production, limited to a maximum of ~8 continuously firing siloes
What did you expect to happen instead? It might be obvious to you, but do it anyway!
- I expected Space Science cargo pods to arrive faster, or more at a time, or to be increasable in some way
