Orbital Cannon / Orbital Bombardement for Base-Defence

My suggestion would be an orbital cannon that can execute an attack on the planet from a space platform, similar to an artillery turret. It would be like an orbital bombardment, as seen in Star Wars, etc. It could be manually controlled, just like artillery used to be. This could also be implemented for the late game, when the alien nests become larger. You could build a stationary space platform that produces resources, etc., and would also be useful for base defense. I haven't found anything comparable in the forum, but it's possible I just missed it.
