Automatically equip best armor

[0.15.5] Looting corpse with power armor difficult
When you die with a power armor and full inventory, then return to the corpse without a power armor, your inventory will be smaller. Currently upon mining the corpse you obtain items in the order they are sorted, until the inventory inevitably runs full. Usually I won't even get my power armor on the first loot attempt, so the only solution is to put stuff in a chest after that first attempt (better have a chest with you). The desired behavior is probably to equip the power armor from the corpse first if the player currently doesnt have one equipped, then the rest of the inventory so that you only need to mine it once.

As a quick workaround, just open the corpse and take the power armor first. At least that's what I've been doing for now.

Oh. I didn't know it behaves like a storage chest; I thought you actually had to mine it. Maybe that solves it already. Or maybe now I want the behavior as I described above to work for storage chests too.

Small QOL change for corpse looting
First of all, I love the fact that I can now loot my corpse after I die.
This said, there is a small change that would provide a huge quality of life change when you are getting your items back from your corpse.
The way it is now, it seems you loot your items somewhat randomly, and when you loose your extra inventory slots from no longer having your armor equiped, you have to dump items on the ground or in a chest untill you can loot and equip your armor.
I suggest that the armor should always be the first item to be looted, thus ensouring you can loot everything in one go.
As an extra bonus, it would also be amazing if the item placement in the inventory was saved, so I didn't have to shuffle all my weapons around when fixing my item layout

Automatically equip best armor
It would be great if when you:
Craft a better armor it would automatically swap it for your current armor
Pick up a corpse, it would equip the best armor in the corpse rather than the worst. (this is particularly annoying)

Re: Automatically equip best armor
Define "better/best" armor, especially for players who carry multiple armors with different module loadouts for different purposes. Or I could imagine the frustration if you craft a higher tier power armor while your existing armor's bots are working.

Open the corpse like a chest.Phoenix27833 wrote: Mon Mar 29, 2021 8:52 pm Pick up a corpse, it would equip the best armor in the corpse rather than the worst. (this is particularly annoying)
Shift click on the armor you want, then control click on the empty slot.

Re: Automatically equip best armor
I'm pretty sure, he does not mine the corpse, but rather opens it and then instead of searching the correct armor to shift click, just transfer all. When you now wear the wrong armor, its quite annoying...NotRexButCaesar wrote: Tue Mar 30, 2021 11:39 pmFaster than mining it.jodokus31 wrote: Tue Mar 30, 2021 8:55 pmThat's tricky, if you have to dodge worms & don't want to get locked-in by bitersNotRexButCaesar wrote: Tue Mar 30, 2021 7:26 pmOpen the corpse like a chest.Phoenix27833 wrote: Mon Mar 29, 2021 8:52 pm Pick up a corpse, it would equip the best armor in the corpse rather than the worst. Re: Automatically equip best armor
I think this is not a good idea. Imagine you craft a power armor mk2 and it replaces your power armor. Suddenly the equipment grid is empty. Your robots don't return, you get moved by belts, have no shields etc.Phoenix27833 wrote: Mon Mar 29, 2021 8:52 pm Craft a better armor it would automatically swap it for your current armor
From my testing the items in your corpse are ordered in this way: First the items from your inventory, than armor and weapons slot. When you ctrl-klick/ or mine the corpse the inventory items are therefore transferred first. I think a good way to fix this would be to reverse the order in which the items are put in the corpse. First armor and weapons slots, than main inventoryPhoenix27833 wrote: Mon Mar 29, 2021 8:52 pm Pick up a corpse, it would equip the best armor in the corpse rather than the worst. This should also fix the issue that you often can't mine/empty the corpse in one go, because you need to equip your armor first.

Re: Automatically equip best armor
Slower than running past and ctrl-click-ing the corpse. Had to run past and dump the loot in a chest and repeat a few times in the past.NotRexButCaesar wrote: Tue Mar 30, 2021 11:39 pmFaster than mining it.jodokus31 wrote: Tue Mar 30, 2021 8:55 pmThat's tricky, if you have to dodge worms & don't want to get locked-in by bitersNotRexButCaesar wrote: Tue Mar 30, 2021 7:26 pmOpen the corpse like a chest.Phoenix27833 wrote: Mon Mar 29, 2021 8:52 pm Pick up a corpse, it would equip the best armor in the corpse rather than the worst. But I don't think I've seen an idea here yet that improves things. "Best" armor is subjective with equipment grids. But maybe moving all armors to the front of the corpses inventory loosely ordered by their tech level would help in most cases. You get the most advanced armor first and put it on. That might not be the best but it's most likely one that can carry all the stuff. Actually even better: put the armor the player was wearing first. So looting puts on the same armor the player was using before.

Sorry, missed that.
Re: Automatically equip best armor
Hoping this gets added to 2.0. Fixing loot twice seems like an easy one to address.
[2.0.10] Unable to pickup armor when dead body's inventory is full
Right now there is an issue i am having when I die.
-I try to grab my body but since i am not wearing armor my body has more inventory that I can pickup.
-While attempting to pickup my body my armor is at the bottom and it doesn't equip the armor most of the time because it can't put it in my inventory.
-When I have multiple armors it equips the oldest armor before the newer types.
Like almost 100% of the time with a full inventory in my dead body i can never pickup my armor. As most time I am trying to retrieve my body from a combat situation it is not great when I can't pickup my armor or my weapons.
What i expect to happen: When I pickup my corpse the game should equip the highest tier armor (Power armor MK2 > Power armor > Modular armor) on the body then attempt to pickup the rest of the stuff. I would even say that the armor should not need a free space in your inventory to be able to be equipped. I think this can easily be done by sorting the inventory backwards (or at least while attempting to mine your body to calculate it as backwards)
Sorting the inventory backwards would have another positive effect as it would equip other guns before pistols.
Body before pickup

Body after pickup

Re: [2.0.10] Unable to pickup armor when dead body's inventory is full
I can't be the only person who has this issue
Re: [2.0.10] Unable to pickup armor when dead body's inventory is full
I had this happen just now! Luckily the massive worm had buggered off by the time I got back, also it ATE my super expensive imported-ingredient miners! I shot my machine gun at it to little avail, and in fact it seemed to telepathically explode me from a distance. Weird. Not looking forward to expanding this territory. Be careful out there folks.
Mining the corpse gave me some chests so was able to jiggle inventories and the armour did auto-equip when I got to it. It does seem it should equip first so everything fits and you get your guns back quick. I wouldn't like this happening in biter territory.
