Roboport Ghosts should show coverage area

Post by sarge945 »

TL;DR
Make placing multiple roboports easier by showing their coverage range, even if they aren't built yet.

What ?
When a ghost roboport exists, it should show it's coverage areas as lighter versions of the standard roboport coverage areas, so we know what areas it will cover once built.

Why ?
Currently, if I want to place multiple roboports, I need to wait until one of them finishes building, so that I can see it's logistics coverage range, before placing the next one to ensure it's at the optimal distance for network coverage.

This is somewhat mitigated by blueprints, as you can have a blueprint with 2 roboports at the perfect distance, and then place it down in lines, but it is a clunky solution and doesn't help if we need to place roboports around obstacles.

There was a mod for this. Probably not updated for 2.0 yet.

Add roboport coverage ghosts

Post by DeadMG »

TL;DR
Roboport ghosts should display a "ghost coverage", maybe similar to normal ones but a bit faded, so the player can see where roboport ghosts will cover.
Why ?
The first issue currently is that it's tricky for the player to build a chain of roboports in remote view. This is because you can't see directly whether or not the logistics areas will touch. Similarly, you can't check if you have covered a whole construction area with a set of roboports. This would make it easier for the player to handle roboport coverage remotely.

This combined with showing linkages with ghost roboports would make placing them much less of a guess and check process if you're not in a spot where you can just use a blueprint, like retrofitting a build with roboports.

+1. People have been asking for this for years. Not having it really makes remotely planning a base expansion so much harder.

The issue of eyeballing roboport coverage has become very common with SA and remove view
