I changed the binding for the "Open character screen" action to "Mouse button 4", this works as expected for opening the screen but it still requires E (or ESC) to be pressed for closing it. I would've expected the new binding to be used for closing it as well instead of the original (E).
I tried re-biding to a different key in case it may be related to the mouse buttons but it still required E to close.
I also tried keeping the original E binding and adding a secondary binding to "Open character screen", didn't work.
Interestingly, if I re-bind the Toggle menu key (ESC by default) to a different key. When I open the character screen and hover over the 'X' it shows E or <the new key> to close. So, it appears that the close key is taken from the control bindings while the E key is hard-coded.

Re: [2.0.11] Open character screen key binding is not respected for closing
Thanks for the report. The open key is not the same as the close for GUIs.
