After googling around i found out that you need the shortcuts alt+r and alt+g to switch the cable color. I played that game from early access and i didn't know that shortcut because i never need to use it. It isn't even shown in the control settings. So the only way to find out is to use google and read all the reports from other users witch already reported that bug.
It is not a feature it is a BUG! FIX THAT! And fire who ever had that idea!
