Stealth upgrade to 2.0.7

Post by Solipsis »

tl;dr: IF YOU ARE STILL RUNNING FACTORIO V1 AND YOU RECEIVE A NOTIFICATION TO UPGRADE, REFUSE IT UNLESS YOU ARE READY TO RECEIVE A STEALTH UPGRADE TO V2 which appears to be INCOMPATIBLE in numerous ways.

I am hot and heavy in a 1.1.110 campaign.

I accepted a waiting upgrade (no indication of version).

Upgrade was to 2.0.7. My installed mods were ruled incompatible. The game is not fully compatible. For example, my Spidertron remotes are gone.

I backed up my blueprints and saves (still all 1.1.110 untouched. [./factorio/blueprint* and factorio/saves/*]

Downloaded and installed the demo version of Factorio 1.1.110 (Linux). I cannot find out how to reinstall the license.

I had purchased the license in May via HumbleBundle which, I believe, had sent me a one-time-only link to activate the game. I have the Order ID. I have the license key. I am currently STUCK. I will update this note when I get my current campaign restored.

Update: I am attempting to link my Steam account to my Factorio account. Nope.

The version of Factorio downloaded from the website has no DRM. You should download the full game from Factorio.com, which will be available if you've logged in to an account that has the license: https://factorio.com/download/archive/1.1.110

Thank you for this link:
to an account that has the license: https://factorio.com/download/archive/1.1.110
I had been there but clicking either the 1.1.110 button or the Penguin Linux Full Download button (or any other button) had not evoked any response at all. (So, all right: let's call that a Vivaldi browser problem...)

Meanwhile, I took a snapshot from my travel laptop, loaded it onto my desktop, inserted the blueprint/saves backup from last night and have just run it up. SUCCESS.

The first thing it asked me about was updating from 1.1.110 to 2.0.8 and I selected the DISABLE UPDATES button. Problem is now SOLVED.

Thanks for your response.

Final Update: I can confirm that the full download of an older version will work with e.g. Firefox (what I used until very recently).

DUUUUUUDE!!!! Thank you for making this post! When I started up my Factorio today I thought I'd lost everything in the 400+ hour campaign (doing K2 and 284k with a ton of other mods) I was currently working on. I also do not remember seeing any notice or anything for moving to 2.0 when I was shutting down last night. The only thing I can think of is Steam did the update for me. And on that note, I can't find where to disable automatic updates in Steam.... So I guess I get to rock to complete separate installations of this game now. Good times, good times...

Glad it helped.

Just make sure you grab your factorio/blueprint* and factorio/saves/* contents before you attempt any kind of reinstallation, as they will be wiped.

(And, yes, in the KSP world (via Steam), I always move new versions to my own area (~/env/games/KSP/) and keep back versions. I have "upgrade hesitancy", you see. :) )
