Permanent terrain damage

Post by FasterJump »

I remember that in 1.0, some things can permanently damage the terrain. Correct me if I am wrong:
  • Craters from artillery
  • Craters from nukes
  • Biter nest creep (not harvestable unlike in Krastorio2)
Since I don't like to damage the map irreversiblly, I refrained from using nukes, artillery, and to a lesser extent cliff explosives, landfill and forest chopping.

In 2.0, landfill will be reversible, and I hope that Gelba technology will allow tree planting or reviving dead trees.

In the base game (1.1), do the crater and creep still remains after 10+ hours?

I think they do remain in 1.1 and 2.0 as permanent terrain damage.

And i think you are correct saying Gleba technology would allow tree planting and that landfill will be reversible which allow to mitigate those damage.

From what I've read, it looks like artillery craters disappear after 15 minutes, but nuke craters change the terrain tiles permanently. Oh well, I'll just avoid using nukes.

I found some mods that could help clean the nuke craters and biter nest creep/goo:

https://mods.factorio.com/mod/remove-nuclear-marks
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/RePainter

Hopefully they still work in 2.0.
