TL;DR
Currently one of the big issues with Gleba is the tiny, but dense ore fields, a mining research tier for deeper mining could resolve this without reconstructing the entire ecosystem.
WHAT
Gleba is resource hell. Gleba could be equipped additionally with small, but "deep" ore patches that are otherwise rare or nonexistent on other planets, and the research tier requirements to unlock deep drillers to drill said patches. This would be similar in aspect to uranium mining unlocking energy for factory expansion, except deep drilling would unlock ease of material expansion for Gleba and make resource yields on Nauvis, for example, a little more nuanced and give us another fun way to exploit the environment on standard ore equipped planets. A deep drill could mine something like 3x the yield of a single driller, and of course require more advanced belts and train loading sequences to utilize fully, since the yield would be coming in at a much higher rate than the area could account for with slower belts. Deep drillers might also realistically require sulfuric acid to run at full yield, but maybe at 1.5x without the acid, so they're still viable for mid-game Gleba without oil, but not OP to start.
WHY
This is but a small piece of Gleba's issues, but I think maybe it would make a huge, and unique, difference to the gameplay on it and other planets. Gleba would no longer be starved for resources, and would certainly still suck to be on to start (Other changes need to be made to resolve this fact), but would grant vast rewards for starting there. This and other changes to Gleba's ecosystem would both be unique and I think interesting for gameplay, unlike the current Gleba.

Re: Gleba research and ore yield solution
U sure u supposed to talk about this here?
Re: Gleba research and ore yield solution
There's other space stuff suggested on this forum and the FFF and LAN party were all public. I assume we're allowed to talk about it??? If not, then an admin can take care of it.

Please leave making suggestions regarding this content to people with beta access who have the right channels to make them (=not here) and also have more insight into the gameplay and current development status.
I'm an admin over at https://wiki.factorio.com. Feel free to contact me if there's anything wrong (or right) with it.
