[1.1.104] Sudden Lag spikes seemingly related to Sprites & Intel GPU

Been playing Factorio on a Laptop with for a while with no issues, however after returning from a break and updating to 1.1.104 I now experinece constant severe lag spikes- even when no action is taken, every 5-20 seconds or so.

These lag spikes seem to affect (or are caused by) my Intel GPU, as they freeze up my screen i.g. when they occur.
This is strange to me however, since I set my graphical setting to run Factorio on my Nvidia GeForce MX230 GPU.
No high usage of CPU was noted.

I have also noticed that the spikes cause very large numbers in the Sprites|light-composition/shadows/tree-shadows/terrain sections, and have attached screenshots.

Any help or direction would be appreciated.
