I've got a question relating to the fluids' pages. Should the unbarreling recipes be listed in the "produced by" sections in the fluids' infoboxes or how should they be handled? Should a recipe be added to each page or something to redirect users to the barrel beyond the barreling recipe that all the fluids except steam have? Is there a general consensus on this?
In the fluid water's infobox, the unbarreling recipe for water is listed in the "produced by" section. While I was cleaning up the infobox on crude oil, I've noticed that, at some point, the unbarreling recipe for crude oil was listed there. It was then taken off since "producers are machines, not recipes," and I re-added it not knowing what the real rule was.
I'm going to undo my unbarreling change for the moment but the point still stands, how should unbarreling recipes be handled?
How should unbarreling recipes be handled on the fluids' pages?

Re: How should unbarreling recipes be handled on the fluids' pages?
The water infobox was wrong, producers are indeed machines, not recipes. I fixed it.
The barreling recipes don't really produce or consume anything, so handling them as making fluid feels a bit weird. The infobox could just have a line that says "this fluid can be barreled" with a link to barrel, what do you think? It could go into one of the "extra" rows of the infobox template.

Considering what barreling does, I think that linking the barreling recipes through the infobox is probably the best option considering what those recipes do. Not sure if the "recipe can be barreled and unbarreled" would be listed below or above the "produced" and "consumed by" sections. I'm gonna try with the infobox on water by removing the barreling recipe and list underneath the "consumed by" section that the fluid can be barreled and unbarreled with a link to the barrel section.

Re: How should unbarreling recipes be handled on the fluids' pages?
While I'm pushing the barreling change on the infobox, this leads to me another question: should boilers and heat exchangers be linked with water in their info boxes, and vice-versa? It just seems kinda weird that both of the steam producing buildings just kinda, aren't listed in water's infobox, and don't list water in their infoboxes either. Several other infobox discrepancies also exist and while I'm not going to sort through all of them right now, the water to power through steam, turbines, and boilers does seem to have quite a bit of variety that I might try to see if I can tackle. If the changes aren't acceptable I'll at least make sure that an undo can completely revert versions to the previous ones though.

I'm happy with this solution.zergologist wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 3:06 am I'm gonna try with the infobox on water by removing the barreling recipe and list underneath the "consumed by" section that the fluid can be barreled and unbarreled with a link to the barrel section.
Good question! Boiler and heat exchanger are listed in the steam infobox, but not in the water infobox. I agree with you that they should be listed on water, but the question is where and how.zergologist wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 3:55 am should boilers and heat exchangers be linked with water in their info boxes, and vice-versa? In the page history you can see that we used to have a "Processed by" row in the infobox that I removed from the overall infobox template a few years ago. Unfortunately, I did not write down why I removed it and I can't remember. Based on the infoboxes that I modified at the same time, I would guess that I found that it ended up being quite generic (and not really correct) and I didn't like that, e.g. with the furnace being listed for iron ore. But that's something that can solved by simply not listing crafting machines in that row. So I'd be up for adding "Processed by" to the template again, it seems like a good fit for boiler/heat exchanger on water and steam engine/turbine on steam. Though I'd like to try finding a title for it that makes it more clear that only "special" buildings like boilers and generators are listed there, not crafting machines.
I have no idea how to list the water -> steam conversion in the heat exchanger/boiler infobox (beyond just making a text note). It's hard to express in a format that fits in an infobox because it is very specialised to these two entities.
