Unnecessary splitters to belt

and can't understand what is happening on this gif:

Why do we need splitters here? Doesn't belt can do the same by itself?

"Belts going across a splitter will have items from the splitter moving to one side of the crossing belt." -- doesn't make sense to me.

"Belts going across a splitter [similarly to belts going across other belts] will have items from the splitter moving to one side of the crossing belt."

This is a situation that is different from the previous gif where each side of the splitter becomes its own lane most likely for illustration purpose of how the splitters behave in some other conditions, there is no particular need for splitters to do side-loading though, belts could do the same in this use case.

It would be different if the upper part of the vertical belt was going up, it would then "split" lanes like on the previous pictures.

Yeah, seems like it is to show that "splitters works like belts when unloading".

It is just that previous took me some time and then so basic one.

I meant the one on the left to illustrate the 2 different lane sorry if that was unclear, the one on the right ( the one you linked) is indeed the more complex and already shows the side loading.

This one i have seen more commonly used before furnaces :
