I would like to set up a home server using old computer equipment and a Linux OS (or even Windows of absolutely necessary)
Me: I can install linux and fix small problems but in reality, my skills are: follow instructions, cry when things so wrong.
I've attempted to follow the github and wikki and always seem to get stuck.
Is there a derp level how to guide that doesn't send me to 20 different links and uses a good step by step guide?
Other questions:
Is there a specific distro that is best for this?
Available hardware:
Chrome Box with Mint installed 2 core CPU 8GB ram (crappy SSD) [vanilla server 2-4 people]
Laptop with intel 2770 quad core and 16GB ram and SSD [modded server 4-8 people]
Server with Quad Xeon 4 core 8 thread 32GB ram [advanced server with possible multiple servers and different games]
All can be connected through home internet.
I appreciate any assistance.
Thanks

1. Follow one of the tutorials you found.
2. Get stuck.
3. Post here explaining which tutorial you used, which step you are stuck on, and what the error message is.
