Greetings, genius engineers. As mentioned in the title, I am a newbie engineer to this wonderland.
Now I have a question regarding the robot logistic system. In order to better to clarify my question here, I decided to break the question into following items:
0. I love robots, VERY MUCH.
1. My game checkpoint has been uploaded as an attachment. Please feel free to download/load/debug it in the game. It contains NO virus, trust me.
2. So welcome to my little playground now. As you can see, you are now standing to the south of my industry area of green circuit boards.
3. I did some experiments by putting the producer of green circuit boards and copper cables side by side.
4. Here comes the weirdo: you can see the busy logistics robots are flying a long way to pick the copper cables up and feed it to the producers of the green circuit boards, while they have a much better choice by picking up the copper cables from the chests just next to the producers of the green circuit boards.
5. And yes, I have read the wiki of this game. So you can see I have placed the purple chest, the yellow chest, the red chest and the green chest as the providers. However, the logistic robots are still busy traveling the world while all those chests are filled up so near - poor tiny bees.
BTW, the screenshot of all my mods used is also uploaded.
Any hint/suggestion/help is highly appreciated. Thank you, all my comrades.

I think you must have uploaded the wrong save file. I can find nothing on the map resembling the chest-fed array of level 3 assemblers in your screenshot.

Dear Moderator, this is exactly the wiki page I mentioned in the first post.Loewchen wrote: Tue Dec 13, 2022 3:50 pm Ref.: https://wiki.factorio.com/Logistic_netw ... _of_robots.
Yes, I have tried to use all purple chest[aka Active provider chest] to collect the Copper cables.
Really sorry to say that this method does not work as planned, which can be seen from my checkpoints.
All my checkpoints now are available on the Google drive now.

Sorry to hear that. I have uploaded all my savings to the Google Drive.Khagan wrote: Tue Dec 13, 2022 9:52 pm I think you must have uploaded the wrong save file. I can find nothing on the map resembling the chest-fed array of level 3 assemblers in your screenshot.
I have double checked: the purple/green/yellow chests which are near to the player character are full of the copper cables.
Those chests are very close the player character.
Anyway, thank you for trying to help me. <3

Dear Manual Inserter, this is exactly why I referenced it.freebsdx wrote: Wed Dec 14, 2022 1:13 amDear Moderator, this is exactly the wiki page I mentioned in the first post.Loewchen wrote: Tue Dec 13, 2022 3:50 pm Ref.: https://wiki.factorio.com/Logistic_netw ... _of_robots.

You cannot store anything in active providers (purple chests). The robots will take anything in any active provider even if there is no requester chest (blue chest) requesting it, and put in an available storage (yellow) chest. The only reason they stop taking out of active providers is if all storage chests become full.freebsdx wrote: Wed Dec 14, 2022 1:13 am
Yes, I have tried to use all purple chest[aka Active provider chest] to collect the Copper cables.
Normally, one puts passive provider chests (red) on assembler outputs. This way, the robots take any available items from storage chests first instead of triggering new production. This will happen even if the storage chests are farther away than the passive provider.
Active providers technically have higher priority than storage chests for filling requests, but only so that bots save time while emptying the active provider. They can take it directly to a requester instead of leaving it at a storage chests first.
Also, bot orders don't change even if a better option becomes available while it's flying. They will still go to the pickup point set when it was first dispatched.

Thank you for such detailed answer. This thread can be marked as solved now.robot256 wrote: Wed Dec 14, 2022 5:40 amYou cannot store anything in active providers (purple chests).
