Optimizations
  • Added native support for M1 Macs.
Thank you. Factorio now runs much faster. However, I seems like that the Steam beta version for 1.1.71 is not a universal binary and only runs in x86_64 mode, while the full download from the website is a universal binary and runs as arm64. Anyone else having this issue?
To those having difficulty launching the arm64 version through Steam, this should be fixed now. Give Steam some time to update Factorio's launch options. If you're impatient like me, you can also force an update by opting out of the 1.1.71, build, or 1.1.x beta branch, letting Steam update Factorio, then opting back into the beta branch.

It's now working. Thank you for the hint.

I tested with Gnome on Wayland, and it's not really better there. Not sure, whats the problem, but it might be that, NVidia is not very well supported for Wayland. I guess, I just wait...I'm ok, how it works on Xorg currently
Gnome is trash for performance, Ever since they moved to gnome-shell like 10 years ago it's been a stuttery mess (I miss compiz), pressing "win" a few times can cause stutters even on fast desktop GPUs.

I ditched it for Sway and it's better VFR support a few months ago, and never looked back.

inflammatory phrasing aside, it's pretty much the truth.
